Working in Big Rivers

This place just has a way of grabbing you and urging you to have a go.

We’re go - getters here, because ‘just a job’ doesn’t exist to us. We work with purpose, where the opportunities are plentiful, and the experience is one of a kind.

The daily grind. That frustrating morning commute. You won’t find that here and the slower pace of life here means the work - life -balance is real.

As a young Vet, I came straight out of university to the region to work and had the opportunity to do things people in big cities down south didn’t get to do.

Travelling for work

Our climate and our coordinates are all part of the adventure

People wait their whole lives to see the things we get to see on our daily commute or when we head away for work. We get to explore parts of remote Australia and Aboriginal country that not many people ever get the chance to see. Our lives are really just one big endless summer, even when we’re working.

We cover so much country travelling from one job site to the next throughout the region. One day I thought, I’m going to get my plane licence and fly instead.

Our industries

Find a job with real purpose

The Big Rivers has a diversified and growing regional economy, with plenty of opportunity for career growth and developing new skills. We don’t have the population density like they do in the big cities, so we have plenty of work and our careers and skills are accelerated across a range of industries.

Station Life

Outback station life on the region’s cattle properties is undeniably part of our culture. Ask any ringer, station hand, governess or station cook, it’s tough, back breaking work, but it’s the ultimate experience.

Seasonal & Working Holidays

The dry season. That time of year when the region comes alive and is full of vibes. Sometimes it feels like we’re bursting at the seams when tourists and seasonal workers migrate to the region to escape the cold winter months down south.

Teaching

New grads love it here. No more casual call ups at 7am or putting your name down at different schools in the hope there might be some work. You’ll walk straight into a job. If you’re the type that is happy to give it a go, with a bit of grit and an open mind, you’ll thrive here, and we’d love to have your energy and passion here with us.

Remote Healthcare

There will never be a typical 9 to 5 day. You’ll practice in a clinic, or under a shaded tree. You’ll travel by 4WD or a small plane, and you’ll learn the meaning of country, kinship and community. You’ll know what it means to actually make a difference in the lives of people living in the most remote communities of Australia.

Construction & Trade Industries

We have a lot of catching up to do with our built environment. We’re growing and we need more space. Demand for our construction and trade industries has never been so high. Whether you’re a labourer or a qualified tradie, heavy vehicle operator, mechanic or driver, you will be welcomed with open arms.

Creative Industries

Everything we make or create is born of our environment. It’s always one of a kind, never one size fits all, and some of it tells stories over 65,000 years old. Our community art centres and galleries ensure the transference of culture remains alive and strong through art and textiles.
